Description
A high-voltage oil-immersed transformer is a high-power transformer that uses insulating oil as both the cooling and insulation medium.
It is specially designed for power transmission and distribution systems, where it safely and stably steps down high voltage to a usable voltage for factories, commercial facilities, and residential applications. It is one of the most efficient and durable core equipment components in modern power grids.
Core Functions and Working Principles
Efficient voltage conversion: Safely steps down high-voltage power from transmission lines, such as 11kV, 22kV, 33kV, 69kV, or higher.
Insulation and arc suppression: The internal iron core and windings are fully immersed in transformer oil, providing better insulation and
arc suppression performance than air.
Circulating heat dissipation:
Heat generated during operation is transferred through the natural convection of transformer oil to external radiators,
where it is dissipated by natural air cooling or forced air cooling.
Main Structural Components High- and low-voltage bushings:
Insulated porcelain components that guide external high-voltage conductors into the transformer.
Corrugated tank / radiators: Increase the heat dissipation surface area to ensure heat is released efficiently.
Conservator tank: Absorbs oil expansion and contraction caused by temperature changes, helping keep the transformer tank filled with oil.
Breather: Contains silica gel particles to filter moisture from the air entering the conservator tank, preventing the transformer oil from absorbing moisture.
Protection devices: Equipped with a pressure relief valve, Buchholz relay, and thermometer.
When an internal abnormality occurs, these devices can immediately trigger an alarm or trip the power supply.
Application Areas :
Public power systems: Power plant step-up substations, urban and rural substations, and transmission and distribution network nodes.
Heavy industry and technology industries: Steel plants, petrochemical plants, semiconductor fabs, large manufacturing facilities, and other high-energy-consumption environments.
Renewable energy generation: Utility-scale ground-mounted solar power plants, onshore wind farms, and offshore wind power distribution stations.
Large-scale infrastructure: High-speed rail and metro traction substations, airports, and large data centers.
