As AI and smart manufacturing rapidly advance, the manufacturing industry is shifting from "automation" toward "intelligence." Equipment must now go beyond executing machining tasks—it must also be capable of sensing, analyzing, and making real-time decisions. This year, Machsync Technology ("Machsync") is participating in the 2026 International Industrial Automation Exhibition alongside the Central Taiwan Science Park, showcasing its latest MachSensing® AI Smart Tool Holder. The exhibit demonstrates how the company builds AI systems that create a "digital nervous system" for machine tools, helping manufacturers improve machining quality, production efficiency, and equipment management capabilities.
In traditional machining processes, information such as cutting force, vibration, and tool wear is often unavailable in real time, meaning anomalies are typically only discovered after machining is complete or during product inspection. This not only increases scrap costs but also affects delivery schedules and production efficiency.
The MachSensing® AI Smart Tool Holder uses an AI system to analyze cutting force, vibration, and other signals in real time, accurately predicting tool wear curves so that on-site personnel can proactively replace tools before they deteriorate. Machsync stated that it will further introduce AI adaptive cutting technology in the future, enabling the system to automatically adjust cutting parameters based on real-time sensor data—in line with the industry's progression toward lighthouse factories, Industry 4.0, and Industry 5.0. The technology has already been validated by multiple clients, with applications spanning consumer 3C electronics, optical processing, low-volume/high-mix automotive parts machining, and zero-consumable machining in the semiconductor industry.
Beyond machining applications, Machsync continues to invest in tactile sensing technology R&D, expanding into semiconductor wafer transfer monitoring systems. This solution is expected to outperform current monitoring technologies that rely primarily on vibration or vision-based detection, triggering an emergency stop signal within 0.1 seconds at the moment an abnormal wafer collision occurs—significantly reducing wafer breakage rates. The company has recently begun collaborating with domestic back-end packaging and testing (OSAT) facilities as well as robotic arm manufacturers both in Taiwan and abroad, accelerating technology validation and commercialization.
With the rise of Physical AI, applications such as bionic hands (tactile skin sensing) have increasingly become a focal point for the robotics industry. Machsync is also actively positioning itself in related technologies, having launched a two-year research program with academic institutions in 2024 focused on tactile sensing applications for flexible materials.
Machsync Chairman Lee Tsung-Hung stated: "We hope to enable equipment not only to 'perform' tasks, but also to 'sense' and 'judge.' From machining tool holders to wafer transfer, Machsync continues to bring AI and tactile sensing into manufacturing environments, gradually transforming processes that once relied on the experience and judgment of veteran technicians into intelligent systems capable of real-time response. This reflects the industry trend in the era of Physical AI, where equipment must possess the capabilities of 'sensing, analysis, and decision-making.'"
The 2026 International Industrial Automation Exhibition will take place from August 19 to 22 at Halls 1 and 2 of the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, bringing together smart manufacturing companies from Taiwan and around the world. It is one of Taiwan's most important annual platforms for smart manufacturing exchange. Machsync's booth is located at Q812, 1F, Hall 2, Nangang Exhibition Center. Visitors are welcome to stop by and experience the technology firsthand.
