Power Micro Uses Nano-Particle Surface Modification to Reduce Adhesion in Metal and Plastic Tooling

When metal cutting dies are used to process coated copper and aluminum foils, polymer films, or to mold plastics and liquid metals, severe adhesive wear often occurs, leading to surface damage. Adhesive wear refers to the bonding at microscopic contact points between two surfaces under pressure. As these surfaces slide against each other, small debris detaches from the tool surface, causing material transfer at the interface.

Through micro-nano particle technology, Power Micro alters the density and microstructure of tool surfaces. By applying WS₂ and nano-diamond fullerene coatings—optionally combined with PVD diamond coatings—the tool surfaces achieve anti-adhesion, wear resistance, and low friction properties.

These technologies are primarily applied to lithium battery electrodes, optical diffusion film and TPU processing cutters, die-casting molds, rubber molds, silicone injection molds, carbon fiber molds, oil-free stamping dies, and powder-resistant pipelines/screens. They have successfully resolved many industry bottlenecks in manufacturing processes.

Power Micro International is a research-driven company with decades of experience in precision machining and surface treatment. In 2014, it introduced particle reinforcement and polishing technology from Japan’s Fuji Manufacturing. In 2017, it brought in tungsten disulfide fullerene (IF-WS₂) from Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science.
